Route 66 Box Card

With Father's Day coming up, I was excited to make a few of the newest designs from SVGCuts. This one is the Route 66 box card from the Travel the World kit.

I altered mine slightly to include a fun piece of Tim Holtz ephemera which is a fuel calculator of sorts. It seemed to go well with the classic styling of the car.

I also made the car yellow to match a classic car owned by the recipient:

Lightly glittered black paper made for some realistic looking 'asphalt' flaps!

  

Last but not least, I had some fun street sign paper in my stash to make the envelope as shown in the background below.  I love how this whole project turned out and I can't wait to give it to the recipient!

Get Well Mailbox Bouquet

Here's just a quick post to show the Mailbox Bouquet card from Dreaming Tree that I made for a friend who was in the hospital. She loves bright colors, particularly pink and purple, so that's what I primarily used for her card.

I love how the colors, particularly the green, pop against the black mailbox background.  She's also a fan of black and red, so the black mailbox base with the glittery red flag were just right for this project.

For the mailbox side panels, I stamped a pretty floral pattern in Versamark ink and dusted it with gold Perfect Pearls powder.  What an easy way to create customized shimmery cardstock in whatever pattern or color you choose.

Teapot Box Card

Just a quick post to show what I've been doing other than making trophies - I made this adorable teapot box card from SVGCuts new Worlds Best Mom kit.

I'm actually going to be using this as a birthday card which is just perfect for the tea-loving recipient.
This was quite easy to put together and just so cute!

I did add a little pearl to the center of the orange flower after this picture was taken.

Easter Egg Box Card

When I first saw the sneak peak of the SVGCuts new Springtime Box Cards, I fell in love with this Easter egg card. It brought back some Easter memories from childhood.

We always found a diorama sugar egg in our Easter baskets each year and this card reminds me so much of them. That's why I used glittered cardstock to make this - it looks so very sugary and sweet!

The other thing I remember is my grandmother's Easter egg tree.  She used to make these beautiful diorama ornaments from real blown-out egg shells. They were covered in velvet, fabric and beautiful trims. The insides were often coated in glitter and had little figurines inside.  The tree was made of branches from the yard, painted white and anchored in a pretty crystal jar.  I remember sitting at the table studying all of the eggs and trying to decide which was my favorite.  What great memories this card kit brought to mind!

This picture isn't the greatest with it's dark background, but it shows off the glittery paper a little bit better. Glitter is so difficult to photograph sometimes!  I did a watercolor paint job on the flower petals using some Tim Holtz distress stains (weathered wood, broken china & mustard seed for the center) and once dry, tried to do a little shaping to give them a more dimensional look.  

The pearls are another thing I remember about those egg ornaments.  Some of them had pearls all around the opening of the 'window' on the front of the egg.  So of course I had to add some pearls to my card as a nod to nostalgia.

Piano Box Card

I decided to add a few Christmas touches to the SVGCuts.com Piano Box Card from the Summer Box Cards kit.

Instead of using the flowers that came in the kit, I miniaturized some poinsettias from the wreath in the Santa's Surprises kit which is also from SVGCuts.

I even found a teeny tiny snippet of Silent Night sheet music in my Tim Holtz stash that I added. Love it! I'm so pleased with how this turned out.

Winter Village Box Card

It seems funny to say "Happy Halloween" when I'm here to show off some Christmas projects, but that's just the way it goes sometimes when it comes to seasonal crafting!

I just love Mary's new release of the More Christmas Box Cards kit at svgcuts.com. This Winter Village Box Card is one of my favorites in the kit (although I truly love them all) and so I thought I'd give it a go.

Katarina Ewa posted a picture of her version the other day where she altered the kit ever so slightly to create a vellum window in the front and put a small battery tea light inside.  I'm a sucker for anything that lights up and glows, so I had to try it too.  I love the result!  Thanks for the great idea Katarina!



Of course once I did that my wheels were turning and I had the idea to turn this card into a faux snow globe shaker card. I just recently picked up a Fuse tool at the craft store (using a 60% off coupon - what a deal!) and used it to create a round shaker pocket with some coordinating glitter, sequins and microbeads in it.

At first I tried it without a background paper, but I could see the bottom of the other layers through the window, so I just stamped the bottom of the front fence layer with some snowflakes and glued it in to provide a background for the shaker pocket.  Love it!

This was a really fun project to create and was really simple to cut out and assemble.  Now I have to decide which one I'll take on next - I think it might be the Front Door card.
